In response to the low-growth trap facing many economies, a Roundtable on Financing SMEs in Global Value Chains was held during the B20 China Second Joint Taskforce Meeting in Paris on 31 May 2016. Building on a first BIAC-B20 Turkey event and publication organized last year, the 2016 Roundtable took a closer look at the synergies across the various B20 Task Forces’ recommendations and specifically how they can support the financing of SMEs in global markets to fuel investment and growth. In contribution to B20 inputs to the G20 Leaders’ Summit in September 2016, business leaders and senior government representatives discussed the opportunities and challenges associated with issues such as digitalization and cyber security, innovation, financial inclusion, green finance, and financial regulation.
The Roundtable was co-organized by BIAC, B20 China, the World SME Forum, and the SME Finance Forum, in cooperation with the OECD. It brought together senior representatives from B20 Taskforces, governments, international organizations, SME associations, multinational enterprises, and financial institutions.
Discussions culminated in a publication titled “Financing Growth; SMEs in Global Value Chains” which advocates G20 policy consistency for long-term financial stability, investment, and economic growth.
